THE Upper Hunter equine industry is at its most frenetic this weekend as studs prepare to welcome their well-heeled clients for the annual stallion parades.
Sydney-based bloodstock auction company William Inglis and Son held its inaugural brood mare sale in Scone yesterday, on the eve of the breeding season. The company said it had introduced the Scone sale to give Hunter breeders an opportunity to take their race fillies and mares, many in foal, to a local sale.Transporting pregnant mares to sale venues as far away as Queensland was a concern for many Hunter breeders, according to Arthur Mitchell of Yarraman Park.William Inglis and Son's commercial development manager, Matt Rudolph, said Scone was "the heartland of the NSW thoroughbred breeding industry".Top price at yesterday's sale was $110,000 for race filly Zenarta. The sale raised $736,000. Frances Thompson
