THREE Upper Hunter studs have joined forces to make their presence felt at the prestigious Magic Millions yearling sale on the Gold Coast, which opened yesterday with an impressive $1.5 million paid for a Coolmore Stud colt from Redoute's Choice.

The Hunter studs under the banner Southern Cross Breeders shared in the $25 million-plus opening-day spoils.

A colt by former star sprinter Exceed And Excel and from Byerley Stud, near Sandy Hollow, fetched $380,000.

And a yearling from Ashleigh Thoroughbreds, near Scone, sired by Redoute's Choice, fetched $480,000.
