Spree rings up the bling * news 07 May 08 @ 10:02am by Staff Writer

TEMPE’S Renee Turner spent $550 at Portmans at the Broadway Shopping Centre, and ended up with a $10,000 diamond ring.

The 27-year-old entered a competition after buying some clothes but never dreamed that weeks later she would be putting a one-carat diamond ring on her finger.

“At first I thought it (the phone call) was a prank because a few of my friends have done that in the past,” Ms Turner said.

“When they said your name has been read out, it was just a surreal feeling.

“Even now it still hasn’t sunk in.”

Ms Turner recently went to pick up the round brilliant-cut diamond set in an 18-carat white gold ring from Linda and Co. designer jewellers in Broadway.

Shop manager Michael Sobbi said 50 people had visited the shop to try the ring on in case they won it.

Ms Turner said she wasn’t sure whether this would mean a proposal from her boyfriend. “I don’t want to put any pressure on him. He wants me to sell it for a pool,” she said. But there are signs Ms Turner may not give up the ring so easily after she had it sized to fit her ring finger.

“You always notice them (diamonds) on other people’s hands. You never expect them on your own,” she said.
